Climate activist and innovator Sonam Wangchuk, called-off his 21-day hunger strike in Ladakh on Tuesday.
Wangchuk was on a hunger strike in Leh in Ladakh, demanding statehood for Ladakh and its inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
In an exclusive interview with TV news channel after ending the hunger strike, Wangchuk said that he won't join politics.
"We are way past that and are appealing to the nation, so that the nation makes a dent in the elections elsewhere on the Ladakh issue," Wangchuk said.
"It is now time to move the nation, to express their voice and call the government to choose between keeping their promises and proving that their guarantees work or proving everything is just farce; a jumla," he said. "I won't join politics," Wangchuk added.
Sonam Wangchuk was quoted as saying by news agency , "The first phase of the hunger strike is ending today but this is not the end of the agitation.”.
Wangchuk, who is also an education reformist, told the news agency that the end of the hunger strike is the beginning of the new phase of the ongoing agitation.
"We will continue our struggle (in support of our demands). The gathering of 10,000 people at the venue and participation of over 60,000 others over the past 20 days are a testimony of the people's aspirations," he said.(News Agency)
